All the information of a computer is in English .Those who are good at English can operate computer very easily. This is the age of information technology. We should know English well to get benefit from information technology. We can collect lots of information from internet. English helps us to get a good job. It also helps us to earn a lot of money. But if we do not know English, we will face many problems in our life. We will not get a good job. We will not communicate with any foreigner without learning English. So, there is no alternative to learn English. It is an official or semi-official language in more than 60 countries. Most of the students of our country are afraid of English. So they fail in English in their exams. But in fact English is an easy language. If we practice it regularly, we can learn it very easily. Bangla is our mother tongue. So we have to love and respect this language. We should not avoid Bangla. The advantages of learning English are many. If we are good at English, we can communicate with any foreigner. So, we should not be afraid of this language. Rather we should practice it always. Because we know that practice makes a man perfect.
2. Dowry system
When the guardians of a bridegroom ( ei) take money or any other wealth from the guardians of a bride( K‡b), it is called dowry. Dowry is a curse ( Awfkvc) of our society. It is a great crime in our country. Our country is full of many problems. It is one of them. Dowry system is increasing day by day in our society. There are many reasons of dowry system in our country. Illiteracy is the main reason of dowry system. It is seen that illiterate ( AwkwÿZ) people are taking dowry from the guardians of a bride. An educated person knows that dowry system is an illegal system. Dowry does not bring happiness to our life. We can not buy happiness by money or wealth. Rather it brings sorrow to a bride. Marriage is an important matter in a man’s life. So, there should be no dowry system in marriage. We all know that a bride is the main victim of dowry system. She has to suffer mentally and physically for this illegal ( A‰ea) system. Her husband sometimes beats her physically when her family does not give him any dowry. Sometimes we see that husbands throw acid on the body of their wives for dowry. As a result, many brides commit suicide. It is happening in our society everyday. Poor parents often become bound to sell their land for the marriage of their daughters. Then they become more poor and helpless. Dowry system has no good sides. It has many bad sides. It is a vice. We should remove it from our society. Our government has made strict law against dowry system. According to the law, to take or to receive dowry is a punishable ( kvw¯Í‡hvM¨) crime. But in reality most people are not following this strict law. People must be very conscious about the bad effects of dowry system.
Education is the backbone of a nation. It removes ignorance. It is compared to light. It is the birth right of a person. It is very essential for the development of a country. Female education is a pre-condition for the progress of any nation or society. That is, no development is possible without female education. It removes rapid growth of population. An educated mother makes an educated child. On the other hand, an uneducated mother creates an uneducated child. An educated mother is conscious about the importance of education. Napoleon said, “Give me an educated mother, I will give you an educated nation.” Most of the women of developed countries are highly educated. So, these countries are developing day by day. But in our country, the condition is not satisfactory. In Bangladesh, women were deprived of education in the past. They had no freedom at all. They were confined to domestic work. About 90% were house wives. They could not contribute themselves in the development process of their country. Now, the situation is developing. That is, the rate of female education is increasing rapidly. Now most of women of this beautiful country are conscious about their right. They fight for their basic rights. Now they are becoming doctors, engineers, pilots, bankers, teachers etc. We find their participation in every sector of our country. They are doing very well in their jobs. The Prime Minister of our country is a female. She is very conscious about the importance of female condition. Her government is giving all kinds of facilities to women. Now, girls are getting education without any cost. The government is giving them stipend. None can deny the importance of female education. It is our sacred duty to help them. Half of our population is women. So, a country needs their contribution. All women must try to be educated so that they can play a vital role in developing our country.
(4)Global warming
Global warming means the rise of temperature in the atmosphere. No doubt, it is a matter of concern for the whole world. The world leaders are very much tensed about the global crisis. It is a matter of sorrow that it is increasing day by day. We have to know what is responsible for global warming. Carbon-di-oxide gas is mainly responsible for it. People are also responsible for it. Industrialization is creating global warming. We do not know what disaster is waiting for us. But it is true that our future is very dark. We have to suffer a lot because of global warming. We are burning coals and creating Carbon-di-oxide. We know that tree takes this gas and leaves oxygen. People take this oxygen and leave carbon-di-oxide. That is, tree is a big source of oxygen. But it is a matter of sorrow that we are cutting down trees for our own interest. A tree means a life. Deforestation is increasing. It is a big curse. Tree plantation is very essential for us. We have to plant tree to survive in this world. Only we can make this world polluted and only we can make this world beautiful and pure. Everything depends on us. God has created this world very nicely. We have to keep it nice. Some countries are responsible for global warming such as: America, China, Russia etc. It is our scared duty to save our earth from global warming. We have to decrease the use of carbon-di-oxide. Awareness is very essential for this.
(5)Use and abuse of mobile phone
Mobile phone is a very important device for communication. Martin Cooper invented it in 1971. People from all countries of the world use it for various purposes. We cannot think of our day to day life without mobile phone. Our life depends on it. It is the easiest device of communication. Everything has both good sides and bad sides. Mobile phone is not an exception. It is both a blessing and a curse. Its good sides are many. By it, we can talk to our relatives, friends and others very easily. It has many functions. We can hear songs. We can use internet by it. We can snap pictures. We can read various newspapers by it. Now a days, a mobile phone is called a mini computer. That is, a mobile can work like a computer. It is useful for all types of people. Now students can know their exam and admission result by a mobile phone. People can play games. They can use Facebook, Viber, Messenger etc by a mobile phone. We can say that mobile phone is our best friend because it helps us in our problem. At present, our life is totally unthinkable without mobile phone. It is a part and parcel of our daily life. It has some demerits also. Some people misuse it. They use it for bad purposes. Terrorists threat people by it. Some students are very addicted to it. They spend their valuable time by using it. As a result, they cannot make a good result. Excess is bad. We have to use it for good purposes.
6. Our College Library
A library is the store house of books. A college library is the library which we find in a college. Every college has a library. We cannot think of a college without a library. A library is a part and parcel of a college. A library has books and news papers. We have a college library. It is very big. Our college library has a librarian. The librarian is very good and helpful. He helps us very much. He behaves well with every student. We read newspapers and books in our library. We can read Bangla and English newspapers in the library. Our college has a good environment for reading books. Nobody can use mobile phone in the library. When we read books, we become silent. We do not disturb others. We gain knowledge by reading books. We also get a lot of pleasure. We can read story books, novels, drama books etc. We get all types of books in our library. Good students often visit our college library. We visit library during our interval. We can borrow books from this library. For this, we have to write our names in the register. We can keep a book in our house for 15 days. Our Principal Sir encourages us to visit our library. He is a very wise person. Our library has many facilities. We are proud of our library. We are very lucky that we are reading in a good college and we have a good library.
7. Price-hike/Price spiral/price-rise
Price hike means the increasing rate of some essential goods. The price of goods is increasing day by day in our country. It has gone beyond our capacity. Bangladesh is a poor country. Most of the people cannot eat three times. Some people are very poor. They have no capacity to buy their essential foods. They cannot buy rice, salt, vegetables, fish etc. Price–hike is a curse for the poor people. For it, they cannot eat meals. They suffer from starvation. Price-hike creates many problems for the people. It is a big problem in our country. The poor people are suffering a lot because of price hike. There are many reasons of price-hike. Some dishonest businessmen are responsible for price hike. They stock the foods in their go-down. They are very selfish. They earn money illegally. Our country is very small but it has a huge population. Now the total population is about 16 crore. Most of the people are suffering because of price-hike. Our population is increasing but food production is not increasing. Over population is a big cause of price hike. Our government has taken some steps to remove price hike. We have to help our government in this matter. We have to increase food production. We should not eat costly foods. We should grow vegetables. The government should give punishment to the people who are responsible for price-hike.

This is the famous speech of romantic poet P.B.Shelley. He mentioned it in his famous poem “Ode to the West Wind”. It means that change is the law of nature. That is, happiness and sorrow come by turns. After sorrow, we find happiness. And after happiness, we find sorrow. Winter is one of six seasons in our country. It is the season of extreme cold and snow. This season is a curse for the poor, because they have no ability to buy winter dress. However, winter does not last long. It is a temporary season. After winter, we find spring which is called the king of all seasons. During spring, nature looks beautiful. Everybody feels happy and comfortable during spring. It is also as temporary as winter. Here winter stands for suffering, sorrow, misfortune, cruelty, rainy day, injustice and so on. On the other hand, spring stands for happiness, joy, pleasure, prosperity etc. Shelley was an optimistic (Avkvev`x) poet. He expresses his optimism (Avkv) through this sentence. It suggests us that we should not be frustrated or upset to see sorrow or suffering. But we have to tolerate them with courage. Like winter, our sorrows and sufferings will not last very long. If darkness comes, then light will not be far behind. If our present time is bad and hard, we should not break down. We must be optimistic to think that good days come after bad days.

This famous proverb means that people are remembered by others not for their age but for their works or contribution. Human beings are the best creations of omnipotent and omniscient God. So, we have to work for the welfare of our country and society. The world always remembers the good and famous persons. We have to do something which is meaningful and unforgettable. Man wants to live long. He also wants to live in the memory of men even after death. If a person lives for more than 100 years without doing anything good, the value of his life is zero. After his death, nobody remembers him. His life is valueless and unsuccessful, because he has no contribution towards the welfare of mankind. On the other hand, if a person lives for only thirty or forty years by doing some good works, his life is successful and meaningful. People will never forget his contribution. Even after his death, he lives in the hearts of the people. For example, famous romantic poet John Keats lived only for 25 years but composed some famous poems about nature and beauty. His life duration was very short but his contribution towards English literature is valuable and unforgettable. His readers will remember him forever. That is, he died but his poems will never die. It is also applicable for great Bengali poet Sukhantho Bhattacharya who also died at the age of 21. But his readers still remember him for his literary achievement. So, we see that age does not matter. We have to keep in mind that if we do something good for others, people will never forget us. We can live in the hearts of the people by our contribution.

Where there is life, there is hope. That is, we can’t think of life without hope. Hope helps us to live in the world. We all should be hopeful about our life. An optimistic person leads a life much more better than a pessimistic person. Our life is full of happiness and unhappiness. We may face sorrows any time. But we have to face it boldly as well as efficiently. Our life is not a bed of roses. Rather it is a bed of thorns. It is a universal truth that weal and sorrow come by turns. Everybody wants to live in this world. None wants to depart from this beautiful world. So when a person faces death, he or she tries to avoid it and tries to live for a long time. We should not be frustrated if we face any misfortune. Here a drowning man means a helpless man who needs help from others. He wants others to help him during his problem. Such a drowning man wants to live catching even at a straw which is not able to help him. In the society, we see that sometimes some people fall in danger. That time, they seek the help from those who can’t really help them. Then they become helpless and try to be safe by any other means. Hope is such a thing which inspires a person to live. Hope is very essential for living in this nice world. Before a single moment, a dying man also hopes to live. So, people should be optimistic to lead a life in the world. We have to give up pessimism and love optimism.

Our life is full of sorrow and happiness. The rich are not always happy. Money does not bring happiness. Money can’t buy happiness. Life has ups and downs. When a person finds any difficulty or problem in his way of life, he becomes depressed. But we should keep in mind that happiness and sorrow are interrelated. Sorrows and happiness come by turns. We should be optimistic about our life. Pessimism kills a person. Optimism helps a person to live in the world. After happiness we face sorrow. And after sorrow, we find happiness. It is a universal truth. None is completely happy in the world. It is very true in Nature. The cloud in the sky can’t block the rays of the sun for long. Every cloud has a silver lining. The sky becomes overcast with cloud only for hours or days and not forever. Cloud is a temporary matter. Behind the cloud, we find the smiling sum. This smiling sum removes darkness from the sky. It means a happy situation. In human life, it is also true. On the way to life, we way face thousands of thorns, but we have to remove the thorns with courage and honesty. We must be patient to solve any problem. There is no alternative to patience to prosper in life.
